[KR; 2026] Part 7 - Gangneung | Jeongdongjin, Gyeongpo Beach, Anmok Beach, Danoje Festival Parade
Annyeong Part 7 - Gangneung
This is a beach hopping day! The weather was perfect and I unknowingly woke up early (before the alarm went off). Checked on my naver map and decided to walk over to the ktx station to hop on the train to Jeongdongjin.
Jeongdongjin

I got the tickets on the spot from the KTX station machine. The train was rather empty at this hour. There are a couple of different type of train running this Jeongdongjin route, and this is one of the cheaper fare time option.8:55 AM train to Jeongdongjin15-minute coastal ride, 2,600 won

Reached the station within minutes, it was unbelievable pretty. I wished they had earlier train timings, so that I could catch the sunrise.

Photos of the station:

I decided to walk towards the Hourglass Park:

There was a museum too - but I came too early, it looked pretty cool:

The museum was playing really nice background music!
Since I couldn't explore that area much, I headed to the beach and spent a great time enjoying the view alone:

I wanted to have breakfast around the area, but nothing much was opened too. Quite a bummer. So I bought the next train ticket back to Gangneung:

Lunch in the city
There was a building right infront of the hotel that I was always curious about, and I found out they sell potato soup:

I wished I could bring this pollack roe back home, it sounds good!

I was served rice as appetizer - it was delicious!

I can't explain how yummy it was... it just comfort food to me! I thought it would be like very starchy that I wouldn't finish it, but it was well balanced. It reminded me of my favourite potato soup that was served in my kindergarten - that could be the reason why I liked it.

I liked the noodles and soup so much that I had a impulsive buy of potato snacks afrer lunch (which I regretted hahaha).
They have a separate store beside them which was a gift shop!

It was a perfect store to grab all the Gangneung gifts:옹막상회

It was unmanned, so I liked that I could freely walk around without any stress.
Gyeongpo Beach
Continuing my beach hopping mission, I took a bus to Geyongpo Beach:

The beach was rather cute - they had swings along the beach and I was sitting on one for a long time just enjoying the view.

And one of the famous 5 star hotel in Gangneung:

If I could drive, I probably will stay here - it has good seaview and lake view.Skybay Hotel Gyeongpo
I decided to take a quick walk to the lake nearby before the next bus arrives:

I was sitting at some big platform, and a group of family came over and subtly started sitting closer and closer to me, forcing me to give up my spot :(

I think it will be totally nice to rent a bike and cycle along the beach and the Gyeongpo Lake! The lake view was stunning.

Anmok Beach
My last beach for the day - this beach is probably more touristy because of the famous cafe street. There were a couple of gift shops before the beach, and I bought gifts again:
There was so many cafes along the street, and I spotted a coffee vending machine that Yoo Jae Suk visited - too bad I don't drink coffee!

Before hitting the beach, I decided to visit a bakery store that I've pinned for a long time:

It was a bakery store owned by a constestant that joined the k-variety "Bake Your Dream".정남미명과 강릉본점

The most unique selling point of the bakery - all the breads were shaped and tasted like vegetables!

I got a couple of the bread (to bring back Singapore), tried one piece on the spot together with this apricot latte. The latte was soooooo good - they should promote their drinks more too! The staff were very nice and they allowed me to sit at the corner of the bakery even though it was kinda busy and crowded with people. I would recommend the potato and leek bread - it was chewy!

There was something that I wanted to try in Gangneung, which was ziplining:

But the zip line was closed that day - because of the strong winds :( I didn't want to do the bicycle one instead as it looks sad to do alone.
So it was perfect time for the beach, another round of staring at the sea:

I decided to walk around before heading back:

I had my fair share of the beach for the whole day, and made it back to the city in time for the Gangneung Danoje Festival parade! I didn't know where was the best spot to catch the parade, and AI helped me a lot. I was standing at the corner of this junction: https://maps.app.goo.gl/bWqZKDq8tS3rjRVf6

Back to City

Abit of context from AI: Celebrated annually around the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, the same traditional date as the Chinese Duanwu Festival—this ancient event is one of South Korea's most important traditional celebrations and was designated a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
First wave of parade:

There was a short break inbetween, so I head to the homeplus right behind me for some window shopping (and toilet break!):

The lower levels were selling clothes, shoes etc - wasn't too expensive.
The upper levels had a supermarket, and movie theatre. Noted there wasn't any food outlets in homeplus. I saw this super expensive fish - 440,000 won for a box in the supermarket:

Second wave of the parade:

Some of the parade carts were giving out merchandise, food, snacks, drinks etc. If you have a kid, they will probably get a lot of goodies. I received a small snack from ahjussi after he saw me looking disappointed that the kids standing infront of me were getting snacks from him.

I wanted to order the bigger pot (which is usually for sharing), but the lady owner was worried I cannot finish them, so she recommended me to go for single meals like Kimchi Jjigae. I wished my Korean was better that I could tell her "I'm superb hungry so don't worry".진영두부마을
