[AU; 2022] Brisbane City - South Bank Walking Guide

You cannot go Brisbane without exploring South Bank! Here's a half-day walking guide and I definitely took a long route, please mix and match places you would like to go. I took a 8.8km route!

Starting Point: Kurilpa Bridge

This is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge that crosses over the Brisbane River - yes you can rent a bicycle and cycle over!

You will get an amazing view of the Brisbane river from the bridge - don't forget to stop and take a photo!

1st Checkpoint: Soda Factory

Soda Factory West End Markets, https://www.sodafactorywestend.com.au/
If you would like to get some shopping fix - here will be a good place to roam about. A mall that had a makeover from a historical Soda Factory.

There is also a Harris Farm Markets West End just across the street, with some good looking cafes for some quick break.

2nd Checkpoint: Boundary Street retail strip

Continue walking on Boundary Street and you will be noticing lots of retail shops on both left and right side of the street. Food, clothes, gifts and etc - everything you need may be here!

3rd Checkpoint: Sea Fuel

Stopped by Sea Fuel for lunch - marketed as the best Fish and Chips in Brisbane!

I got myself a normal fish & chips and was surprised by the big portion. If you've preferences, you can choose the type of fish. Definitely will be back again to try out other fish varieties!

4th Checkpoint: The Cliffs Boardwalk

It was a late and slow lunch, so by the time I walked near to the banks, it was almost sunset time (sunset was at 5pm)! If you started your walking earlier, probably can stop over these 2 places: Southpoint South Bank's Mall and Queensland Maritime Museum (closes at 4.30pm).

But the walk along the banks was great, just too crowded with everyone running on the tracks.

5th Checkpoint: Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park

One of the best place to catch a sunset over the Brisbane River! Climb up the small hill and you will be greeted with a good unblocked view.

I wanted to try out this activity at Kangaroo Point Cliffs (even bought an insurance coverage), but I didn't realised it was only available for certain days - you can try it out if it matches your schedule! Kangaroo Point Cliffs Abseiling Experience in Brisbane

Nevertheless, thankful for the good sunset!

5th Checkpoint: South Bank 3 Ferry Terminal

Make a turn from Kangaroo Point Cliffs, back to the boardwalk.. you will be heading towards the South Bank ferry terminals.

There are 3 ferry terminals and if RiverCity Ferries' CityHopper services are back and available - you will be able to take free ferry around the river. But now it is a good place to hangout, stare into space and enjoy the river! I sat an hour over there until it got dark!

6th Checkpoint: Confucius Statue

It surprised me to be able to see some chinese element along the river - there is some herb garden next to the statue and some sunflowers which were in season.

7th Checkpoint: Boat Pool

Need some sand and water? Here you go - a man-made "beach" next to the river. I believe it is free entry to swim! Note: lifeguards are only available in the day-time, so evenings may not be the best for kids but if you want some me-time; after sunset will be great. And it was well-lid!

8th Checkpoint: Rainforest Walk

Rainforest next to the river sounds a little strange but kinda matched well. Enjoyed the short walk around the tall trees - brightly well-lid in the evening!

Right at the end of the rainforest - you will find Nepalese Peace Pagoda, which was closed for some reno when I visited. But there are bamboos for good photoshoot - be camera ready!

9th Checkpoint: The Wheel of Brisbane

If you are feeling in the mood for some ride - hop onto the ferries wheel and I believe you will be able to capture some amazing night view of the river.

End Point: Kurilpa Bridge

Since my accommodation is near Kurilpa Bridge, it made sense for me to return back to my starting point and cross the bridge back to the CBD.

All I can say... amazing night view. Brisbane river is really well organised that there are so much to see in the day and night - loved the fact it was well-lid, so you feel safe walking the long stretch along the river alone.
