Taiwan Trip | Part 1 - Taichung

Day 1

Arrival & checking in the hotel

We took EVA air this time to Taiwan - the ground staff at Changi Airport was quite inexperience handling wheelchair bounded passengers, thankfully her manager stepped in and sorted out everything quickly. The flight experience was ok, inflight meals were acceptable. Good flight overall.

Immigration in Taiwan was surprisingly easy for wheelchair bounded travelers. In contrast, we had to queue for the activation of the e-gate which took way lots more time.

We pre-booked our car from Taoyuan Airport to Taichung hotel via Klook - but I only received the vehicle number 2 hours ahead our pickup (which was quite rare). Our assigned driver was patient and nice, he even gave us time to go to the convenience store to pickup food and to have it during the car ride. Probably one of the best driver we met during the entire trip. If you're looking for a private driver, do reach out to them directly: https://www.facebook.com/Chioupid/

I chose a hotel near Fengchia Night Market - but not exactly very close, as I was conscious about the noise. Traffic was also my top consideration as we had a wheelchair bounded traveler. Having a much more spacious pickup and low traffic count was helpful if you're travelling with a wheelchair. Trust me, it was less stressful.

Hotel 7 逢甲
We booked two type of rooms - the loft and normal room type. Featuring the loft first:

The loft was definitely not wheelchair friendly, but having the living space was helpful. Every morning and evening we used the living space for meals. The room was equipped with a microwave. And the sofa can be extended as a bed, perfect for a small crowd.

For the wheelchair traveler - we booked the normal room. It was a pity that they didn't had accessibility room type. The room was not exact accessible, it lacked of hand rails, and the odd shaped design of the washroom was a nah. But as a normal room for normal usage, the size and everything was perfect.

Dinner

We stopped by this empty hotpot store next to the hotel... and we ordered a fish hotpot (when the store signature was pork ribs / beef):

盆滿鍋滿火鍋
When we were wondering where was the fish meat in the pot - we were served a huge fish sliced properly.

The pot came with vegetables:

And we ordered extra pork slices as there was a 1 for 1 promo:

And also an oyster omelette:

Verdict - extremely honest: the ingredients were great, fresh which was surprising for such a quiet store. But, the soup was too bland, with tooooo much seaweeds in it (we scooped like a huge bowl of seaweeds and there were still many more). When we were wondering - why were there so many positive reviews on google map, that's where we realised, ah 5 stars review could exchange something free from the store.

Day 2

The next day we woke up from the loft with this view:

I took more photos of the hotel:

Hotel rooftop lounge:

It was well equipped with items - if you're traveling with young kids, the bottle sterilizers will be helpful.

We purchased breakfast for just one room, and the feedback I received was - it was quite average. Nothing special to much about it.

Stay tune for the continued day 2 in the next post!
