[TW; 2013] CNY Travels | Sun Moon Lake

DESTINATION 2: SUN MOON LAKE (SML)

#1 Cingjing minsu > Shueishe (水社)
Chatted with the minsu owner who was doing some traffic control outside the road while waiting for the bus to arrive.

Took the 10.30am bus from Cingjing to Puli.
NT$133 for one way trip. Travel time 1hour and 20mins, inbetween there is a 10~20mins break at 7-11. Bus Timings
Then Puli to Sun Moon Lake.
NT$62 for one way trip. Travel time ard 30mins. Bus Timings 1, Bus Timings 2
#2 Shueishe > Shueishe surroundings
Upon reaching, tried to check-in to the hotel but the counter told us to come back at 2pm.
So we went for lunch, set lunch 5 dishes & 1 soup for NT$1000. There are many such shops over there so just take your pick.

The taste for this stall was so-so, but i liked the clam soup as the clam meat was really sweet!
After that slacked in Starbucks to see the pretty SML.

#3 Shueishe Surroundings > Honeymoon Hotel (日月潭蜜月樓)
Back to the hotel for check-in and they gave us free upgrade of room. The hotel is quite easy to recognise, it is the one and only building that is painted in purple!

Suppose to be 4 of us staying in 1 room but they gave us 2 rooms and sort of connected rooms. So nice of them!
Honeymoon Hotel (日月潭蜜月樓), http://honeymoon.mmmtravel.com.tw, NT$2300/night
#4 Hotel > SML Shueishe
Took a boat ride!
NT$100 per ticket, able to take unlimited trips around SML for a day
Supposed to be NT$300 per ride, but this company was having promotion for NT$100! Not sure whether this promotion is forever or for a period of time. Nevertheless, it is a steal!

#5 SML Shueishe > SML Itathao (伊達邵)
On the boat~

Itathao!

Street view!

Food!
Fried veges and mushroom and had strawberry crisps.

Things to do!

Draw a lot from this red machine for NT$10 or scratch a NT$100 lottery card!

Recommended food!

Chicken wing with stuffed glutinous rice! NT$15 for one cant remember?

#6 SML Itathao > SML Syuanguang (玄光寺)
Took the boat ride again... and reached Syuanguang.
And the first thing i saw is...

Herbal egg! I guess it costed around NT$10?
IT'S DAMN NICE! The best herbal egg I've eaten in my whole life so far.
And the shell was so easy to peel off, i wonder why?

The view of SML from the top of the temple.

#7 SMLSyuanguang > SML Shueishe
Back to Shueishe, whether my dad went back to take a nap. While we went shopping around shueishe.
Had dinner at this restaurant opposite 7-11, and I can say it should be one of the best restuarant out there in Shueishe.

Was too hungry and the only picture I took was this Tofu with century egg & salted egg. This plate cost ard S$8 or even lesser? The total bill for this dinner was ard NT$1000, which consisted 5dishes.

Ended the day with a bloated stomach. But went to 7-11 to buy Taiwan Beer (台湾啤酒)...

It only costed S$5 for 4 cans!
Okay, I dont really drink alcoholic beverage. It was because my friends were telling me how nice is Taiwan Beer so I just bought it to try the taste.
Frankly speaking, I dont like the taste. Maybe because I am not use with alcoholic beverage?
I won't buy again unless I've really bad insomnia.

#8 Hotel > Longfeng Temple - God of Marriage Temple (龍鳳宮-月老廟)
Next day morning, the hotel staff delivered the breakfast to the room at 8am.
I was half-awake so did not take any pictures of the breakfast.
It consisted of breads, cakes and red tea. The bread tasted not bad, but the red tea was abit too sweet for me.

We planned to go a temple before the check-out...
Took the longer route, but able to see another view of SML, it is so pretty despite the early morning!

Reached the temple after 15~20mins walk.

The temple...!

If you havent notice in the description, this temple is famous for it's 月老 (YueLao), which is the God of Marriage. And the YueLao over there is in the standing position, which i hearsay standing YueLao is better in terms of efficiency. (I hope so...)

The view of Sun Moon Lake from the top.

I went to get a wishing plaque (许愿牌) from YueLao, and hung it at the strings provided front of the temple.

After that we walked the shorter route back and check-out from the hotel.

    1. Hi,

      Thanks for your compliments!

I only went Yilan for a few hours, and i would say almost all the scenic spots require cabbing. But that was 4years ago. The only accessible-friendly place the visitor centre recommended to us was luodong night market, where you've to take a train ride further down. Sorry I could not give much advice on it.

I dont really encourage cabbing, if you can drive, renting a car can be an option.

Maybe you can try hualien instead, I heard that the public transport runs between the hualien city and the scenic spots. And if you're sporty enough you could even cycle around the city.

For taipei, it should be quite simple. There is metro and the buses cover almost every corner of the city.
If you like scenic spots, then places like yangmingshan, jiufen, jinguashi, yehliu, danshui will interest you.
If you like shopping, then ximending, zhongqu, taipei main station, wufenpu.
For food, zhongqu have lots of nice cafes, raohe night market, danshui, bali (for seafood), shida night market, shilin night market.

Hope these helps! Feel free to drop another comment if you still have doubts!

    1. Hi,

Hmm, you did not leave you email on the comment so I've no idea where to send the email.

But if you happen to view back your comment..
      From Taipei to SML:
The easiest & fastest way is the take a HSR to Taichung and then transfer a bus to SML at the HSR station.
