[JP; 2025] Day 1 - Tokyo | Asakusa \ Tokyo Skytree

This will be another multi-country / city travel post: Japan / Tokyo > China / Guangzhou > Indonesia / Bali.

Day 1

Morning — Arrival Narita Airport

It has been a few years since I visited Tokyo, glad that the airport feels somewhat familiar so I wasn't that lost. I got this free Suica card over the counter when purchasing the Keisei Narita Skyaccess tickets over the counter. Which brings us directly to Nihombashi Station where our hotel was located at.

We couldn't check-in the hotel, so we left our luggage with the reception. It was pretty funny that the receptionist said "xin chao" to me - which made me froze for a few seconds. (Disclaimer, I'm not Vietnamese)

There was a 711 just at the junction, we spent some time exploring and got fascinated by some stuffs that we don't usually see in Singapore.

Noon — Asakusa

Sensō-ji 浅草寺

Before heading to lunch, we decided to make a trip to my favourite place in Tokyo - Sensō-ji. A must do whenever I was there - to draw a 100 yen lot, it was comforting & blessed to get a mini-fortunate lot.

Sushirō スシロー 浅草六区店

While we were struggling to decide what to have for lunch, a little boy passed by and pointed to his mum sushi - and that was how we found Sushirō! The quality of the sushi was at another level compared to Singapore, even the noodles were x100 better. We ended the meal with some dessert, probably the only item that was disappointing was the orange juice.

UNIQLO Asakusa Store ユニクロ 浅草店

Uniqlo was at the same building as Sushirō. It was interesting to see Asakusa themed products in this store. It wasn't crowded at all so it was comfortable and easy to shop around the store.

Afternoon — Tokyo Skytree

miffy style ソラマチ店

We took a short ride train to the Tokyo Skytree - it is walkable distance but we didn't want to waste our energy in the hot September weather. The very first store we stepped in the Skytree was this Miffy store. The cuteness was overloading.

Sumida Aquarium すみだ水族館

Stylish, contemporary, small aquarium located within the Skytree, featuring a variety of fish, penguins and a cafe. You will be able to view the tankscape by Takashi Amano. So if you are a big fan of aquascaping - this is the place you need to be in.

We bought the tickets on third-party app upon arrival and it was cheaper than purchasing it over the counter. You can get the tickets on Klook.

Pokémon Center Skytree Town Solamachi East Yard 4th floor
ポケモンセンタースカイツリータウン
You cannot miss out a Pokemon Center in Japan. It was very crowded - be prepared for the long queue at the cashier.

Starbucks Coffee - Tokyo Skytree Town · Solamachi East 6F
スターバックス コーヒー 東京スカイツリータウン・ソラマチ東6階店

We surveyed the whole Skytree for the best sunset view (without paying for the Skytree tickets), and the best location was at Starbucks. They do have limited seats along the window, so will be best to go a little earlier to get the best view. We only managed to get the window seats towards the end of the sunset, and the view was slightly restricted after someone complained about the blinding sunlight - the staff came to pull down the binds. Overall, it was still a good place to chill for the sunset chase after a long day.

Evening — Nihonba

Shinpachi Shokudō Kayabachō
炭火焼干物定食しんぱち食堂茅場町店

We walked into a random store near to the hotel, and it turned out to be a great meal. Very localised dishes and the grilled fish were yummy. Would recommend if you are staying nearby Nihonba.

Nest Hotel Tokyo Yaesu
ネストホテル東京八重洲

While the room were clean, beds were comfy, air conditioning was strong and cool, but the space was quite tight. It was a typical tiny standard Japan hotel room. There was literally no space to fully open a luggage, which can be a bit inconvenient if you are shopping a lot in Tokyo. We had to stack our stuffs on top of each other so we had space move around the room. Probably suitable for one person instead to two.

Please look forward to the next few days in Tokyo!
