Taiwan Trip | Part 6 - Taipei
Day 6
Hospital Emergency Room visit

So my mum has been feeling unwell since Day 2 after consuming the Salt-Grilled Clams. So she was bearing the pain for the past 4 days because she didn't want to interrupt the trip. So on Day 6 early morning she was looking uncomfortable, so we brought her to the nearest hospital - Taipei City Hospital Zhongxing Branch 臺北市立聯合醫院中興院區.
The hospital was quite prepared with forms in English and etc. As I could speak Mandarin it wasn't too difficult to communicate. The emergency room nurses were a bit impatient, but they didn't mean to be rude, just come prepared with list of current medicines and medical history. For Singaporeans, it was easy to just screenshot the medicine list from NUHS app, probably able to do the same on Healthhub app.
The doctor did an ultrascan on the spot (which we don't see that in Singapore emergency room) and confirmed that 腸胃炎 gastroenteritis, which confirmed our suspicion on that bad clams. (Context: my mum had the most, while the rest of us only had 1-2 clams). They put her on IV drips and discharge her aftermath. For the collection of the medicine, they included English description to it. As I needed an English letter, I had to bring all the documents to the main building to get a verification stamp.
The total bill of the A&E visit was NT$5,129 (~SGD$230) inclusive of medicines, english letter and all the blood test & scans. It was very affordable even without government subsidy. Everything was done within 1.5 hours (unlike Singapore whether you probably still in a queue to get a doctor consult). I had to walk back to change the medicine as it wasn't suitable for her, and the staff promptly helped me with it.
I'm glad I purchased travel insurance, so everything was covered without any further clarification needed, and even her follow up in a Singapore GP clinic was covered by the travel insurance. If you're wondering - I bought travel insurance from FWD, the most basic plan and topped up with pre-existing conditions.
Lunch
My mum had the medicines and went to bed, while some of us came out to find food. It was april fool day and 7-11 was running some fun promo:

First stop - we grabbed a bubble tea!

Then we brough the yummy bubble teas to a stall right opposite:

享之饌站前店 台南虱目魚

It's Tainan milkfish~

The dishes were delicious and we cleared them really quickly. It was so good that we packed them back for my parents, just in case they were hungry. Definitely will be back again if I'm nearby next time.
#1 City Stop: Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall
As my mum will feel guilty if everyone stayed in the airbnb with her and not heading out to explore, so some of us decided to roam around some nearby touristy attractions. If you want a simple city walking tour, you can just follow my touristy routes:

There was a vending machine that were selling mystery drink bottles:

But we didn't get the sakura pikachu :(
#2 City Stop: Rongjin Gorgeous Time

Rongjin Gorgeous Time 榕錦時光生活園區
It’s a small area that wouldn't take much time to complete. Pretty and well-preserved Japanese wooden buildings occupied by shops, cafes and restaurants. As it was a former prison from the Japanese colonial era, some original structure still remained intact - example the historic stone wall at the back.
#3 City Stop: YongKang Street
We visited this Kinmen famous medicinal ointment brand - unfortunately they closed the place shortly after our visit:

The ice cream was yummy - despite being strange that it was made by the medicinal herbs:

There were a couple of trendy shops along the streets, we just randomly visited a few:

The shop that we probably spend a lot of time in was this:

There was a sales ongoing, so we carried quite a number of snacks back. Highly recommend I-Mei for Taiwanese goodies.
#4 City Stop: Taipei Main Station
The pudding sponge cake was super delicious and the price was such a great deal (less than NT$200, depending on what flavour you get). The cake was soft and fluffy - perfect for an afternoon tea snack, we finished the cake within minutes. We went back again another day to bring some boxes back to Singapore.
As we need to walk though the Taipei Main Station back to Ximending, we had to explore the gashapon area:

#5 City Stop: Back to Ximending, dinner!
As my mum was feeling better by dinner time, everyone decided to head out for dinner at Ximending. While waiting for our reservation, we walked around the busy streets:

The Red House 西門紅樓
I've been recommending people to visit the Red House - but I never been inside before? To my surprise, it was quite a cute place with small gift stalls.

My favourite hotpot place in Ximending:

Although some of the staff's attitude were meh, but the manager saved the whole experience. We got a free deep fried tofu because the manager deemed that we waited too long for our seats? We made sure the food was fully cooked before my mum had them. I will still come back again :)
This marks the end of our dramatic day!
