[AU; 2022] Tasmania - A Day Trip to Bruny Island
Bruny Island is an island located off the south-eastern coast of Tasmania, Australia. There is no comprehensive public transport on the island, so you need to either self-drive or join a tour.
So the latter option is what I did and here is a quick overview of the trip (you can also use the itinerary below for your own self-drive). I booked my tour via klook:
Bruny Island Day Tour from Hobart
Upon confirmation, you will receive a timing to wait for the pickup bus, mine was pretty early as I was the first few to get picked up:
A very old school bus which operates in manual gear.
Once everyone is onboarded - the driver/guide will driver towards the ferry terminal. Which was approx 30-40min away from the Hobart City. The next thing you will be on the passenger ferry to the island!
First Stop: Truganini - The Neck Game Reserve Lookout
The famous instagrammable lookout - it had an awesome view at the top of the lookout!
Down the lookout, there was a small platform where you can catch penguins - but they are only available during dusk and dawn.
Second Stop: Adventure Bay Beach
It was freezing cold in the winter, otherwise it should be a nice spot where you can swim in the beaches.
Third Stop: Random Wallaby spotting
That's the closest view you can see a wallaby... spot it from the photo below:
Fourth Stop: Mavista Picnic Area & Walking Track
You will get some walking through forest experience in the tour! Just beware of leeches...
Fifth Stop: Bruny Island Chocolate Co.
I'm not a big fan of chocolates, but I ended up buying some as gift as they are wrapped up nicely.
Sixth Stop: Cape Bruny Lighthouse
Amazing view before reaching the lighthouse!
Ta-da the lighthouse after climbing for 7-8mins!
Seventh Stop: Lunch @ Alonnah General Store
There were 2 lunch options - one at this general store and another at a restaurant. Being not fussy and pocket friendly, I choose having burgers for lunch!
The warm burgers and fries went well with the cold weather!
Eighth Stop: Bread Fridge
Spot for the bread fridge which is an unmanned "store" where you can purchase freshly baked bread. I heard it is delicious and lucky guide bought the last bread in the fridge - so no more bread for us to try :(
Ninth Stop: Bruny Island Honey
I bought some honey back as gift and my friends were telling me that the honey concentration is quite high. I assume that means it is good :)
Tenth Stop: Bruny Island Cheese Company
Extra Stop: Sealink back to main land
Our bus had to queue for the ferry, so the guide let us down to explore this small mart and go for the restroom near the sealink ferry terminal. They do sell some interesting stuffs in the small mart.
You can also take a seat at the back of the mart to have a good seaview
Awesome view to end the trip!
