[AU; 2022] Hobart City, Tasmania - 1 Day Itinerary

Morning: A stroll around St David Park & Salamanca Place

St David's Park
16 Elizabeth St, Hobart TAS 7000, Australia
A very small park with a very cozy vibe.

Salamanca Place
39A Salamanca Pl, Battery Point TAS 7004, Australia

It has a Saturday market which makes the area very vibrant - will share this in another post. But if you visit here in a weekday, it is quite a peaceful area to hangout.

I decided to hop in a cafe for some early brunch!
Tricycle cafe & barhttp://www.tricyclecafe.com.au/
Kellys Steps, 77 Salamanca Pl, Hobart TAS 7004, Australia
The pulled pork was so good and I just have a thing about hot chocolate in Australia. It is my must go beverage!

Noon: Visit a Museum!

Tasmanian Museum and Art Galleryhttp://www.tmag.tas.gov.au/
Dunn Pl, Hobart TAS 7000, Australia
How can you miss out a free museum which is so interesting and fun?

There were so much to see...

So much to do too!

Afternoon: Time to shop!

Elizabeth Street Mall, The Cat & Fiddle Arcade & Centrepoint

Although there are 3 areas you can shop, but they are all a street across each other and it doesn't really take a lot of time to complete them. Most of them are big brands! Book a hotel nearby so you can drop your (small) loots before the evening!

Late afternoon: Catch the sunset at hill lookout!

If you're at Hobart City, you will need to take a Derwent Ferry to across over to the Bellerive Pier!

Board @ Brooke Street Pier
You can pay the ferry fare using a credit card, so do not need to purchase the tickets in advance! It is just a 15 minutes ride or so.

It looks like I travelled to another country in minutes - the vibe was totally different.

What coming up next is challenging - I would recommend to do so only if you're comfortable climbing uphill uncrowded roads/paths for 30minutes. This is the route I took:

Firstly you will walk through some parking lots:

Cutting through the Rosny skatepark:

Followed by Charles Hand Park:

After clearing the park (around 20 minutes of uphill), you will be at a landed house area, continue climbing up until you see a sign that tells you it is the driving entrance of Rosny Hill Lookout:

You will be greeted with this amazing view with Tasman Bridge in the background:
Rosny Hill Lookout
49 Leura St, Rosny TAS 7018, Australia
It was so pretty that I was struggling whether I should call an uber up to drive me back to Hobart city or walk down. I wanted to stay longer. But I decided to leave after 15 minutes to catch the ferry as it was getting dark without any street lights around. I would highly recommend this sunset place!

Bellerive Pier was pretty at night too.

Bonus #1: Nice nightview in Hobart City

What I loved about Hobart city was.. you don't need to drive or travel high to get a good nightview. Here I'm sharing a secret spot that I discovered.
Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS)
20 Castray Esplanade, Battery Point TAS 7004, Australia
If you walk behind the building, you will be able to get a very good sea view (and there are seats there too!) The photo below doesn't do justice, but you will be amazed by the night sea view.

That's not all, the street near the institute were also nice decorated with fairy lights, so magical over there!

And watch out the lights on the floor, they had meaningful messages hidden around the area!

Bonus #2: Accommodation

Hobart is quite a walkable city, so staying anywhere is good and convenient. Featuring where I stayed:

Travelodge Hotel Hobarthttps://www.travelodge.com.au
167 Macquarie St, Hobart TAS 7000, Australia

I had a kinda good view that from some angles, I'm able to see Mount Wellington (another post on this!). But probably the building in yellow - ibis Styles Hobart will have a better view of Mt Wellington or the Pier view (I wanted to book but it was closed, it should have reopened!).

Nevertheless Travelodge was good to, especially the evening staff were very attentive. There is a small pantry area in the room where you can heat up some quick bites.

Washroom was a little small but still acceptable for me!

This is the first post about Tasmania and more to come next!
