[VN; 2023] 1 day itinerary in HCMC

Xin Chao everyone! If you only have one full day in HCMC, follow me to get the best out of the city!

1. Visit Ho Chi Minh's Statue

Ho Chi Minh Statue

Start the day by understanding the history of this city - you will find this statue sitting at a perfect spot with People's Committee Building at the background.

Lotus is Vietnam national flower, so you will see it everywhere near the statue.

2. Shopping at Ben Thanh Market

Ben Thanh Market
Although this is a very touristy place - but it is still the best place to get all the things you need such as coffee, dried seafood, tshirts etc.

The streets surrounding the market are a small extended shopping district:

3. Very late Breakfast: Mama's Kitchen

Mama's Kitchen - Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine
This restaurant is just a 10 minutes walking distance from the market. It serves yummy Vietnamese cusine!

I loved the way how they plate the food - it was rare to have delicious looking food that also tasted delicious!

4. Ho Chi Minh City Opera House

Ho Chi Minh City Opera House
This was a super popular place for photoshoot, so many people were taking wedding photos over here.

5. Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon

Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon
Unfortunately it was under renovation when I headed over :(

6. Sai Gon Central Post Office

Sai Gon Central Post Office
This is a monumental central post office, completed in 1891. The interior is rather pretty with high ceiling!

They sell postcards that you can mail out on the spot!

There were food stalls outside the post office where you can take a quick bite.

7. Ho Chi Minh City Book Street

Ho Chi Minh City Book Street
It was quite a pity that the books were mainly in Vietnamese. But it had a nice hipster vibe!

Some cafes along the stretch of bookstores:

8. Very late Lunch: Hoa Túc Saigon

Hoa Túc Saigon
Located just opposite the hotel I was staying (Park Hyatt Sagion Hotel).

I had lunch with a group of Vietnamese, hence they took the order and I get to try many uncommon dishes. The drink itself was fanciful.

All the food tasted new to me, but something I really will not try again this is starfruit soup. I'm someone who loves sweet, sour, spicy dishes - but this wasn't the style of soup I would enjoy.

The desserts were also very local food - but too sweet for my liking.

9. Shopping at Vincom Center

The mall looked small but compact, right behind Park Hyatt - I ended up buying a lot of things from here, and it was easy to carry back to the hotel since it was just 5 minutes walk:
Vincom Center

There was this particular store that I bought a lot of stuffs from:
L'angfarm Store
They had all the Vietnamese snacks and tea packed in nice packaging, so I can straightaway gift to friends. I bought a couple of tea boxes back for personal consumption, and it was great!

I also grabbed a couple of things from the local supermarket:
WinMart

10. Dinner: Viet Princess

Viet Princess - Boarding at Saigon Port Cruise Terminal
A river cruise dinner! The interior was quite classy and there was a live band. You will need to pre-book for the this.

Menu for dinner:

They plated everything so nicely, and yummy Vietnamese food! Just the soup was a little sweet which feels strange as chinese soup are usually salty.

But I loved the dessert - the sweetness and fragrance was just right. Lotus flower added some touch to the overall look. Lotus (flower, roots etc) everywhere~

After all courses were served, just in time to go for a good breeze before the cruise returns back to the port. This looks like an area with very expensive apartments.

This marks the end of my short HCMC trip :)
