Day 2

Breakfast

Grabbing breakfast from the market near the minsu - and it was pretty interesting walk!

Guangdong Congee 廣東粥 - there are many stalls selling congee and this is one of the many recommended:
傳記廣東粥

The very famous century-old Kinmen deep-fried bread - 百年油條金門:
和記油條

We were very lucky that both stalls did not had long queues when we were there. But it was very popular that the local just kept streaming in and order.

Bought back all the breakfast item back to the minsu and we enjoyed the breakfast very much! Loved the fried bread, it does taste a little different, chewy yet crispy - personal favourite if I need to choose one.

Start of our road trip!

Our minsu owner helped us to reverse a 4-seater car from their partners:
金門租車 三德租車
I'm quite surprised that the staff seems a little lost on the process for foreign drivers. They had to call and check with several people to get the paperwork done. But all good and we did the car check - recommend to take a video (properly) and point out damage areas even scratches.

1. Juguang Tower 莒光樓

As Taiwan is left-hand drive, just to allow my dad to get used to driving, we pinned a location nearby:
Juguang Tower 莒光樓
It was quite a historic building with some Kinmen history exhibits. There was quite a nice view at the top floor. There was a slope where you can push the wheelchair, but the inner building was not wheelchair accessible.

2. Zhu Shan Village 珠山聚落

It was a residential area, but very quiet and peaceful to walk around and take some photos. It wasn't very wheelchair friendly, but could still push the wheelchair around at ground level.

There was a small hill that you can hike up!

Which has a good view of the residential area:

3. Deyue Tower 得月樓

It has a very unique blend of minnan and western architecture styles. The building include elements of being a defensive tower to keep pirates away. Ground level was wheelchair accessible, but it can be quite bumpy.

4. Lunch!

We crossed the Kinmen Bridge 金門大橋 and arrived at Little Kinmen 小金門 (also known as Lieyu Island 烈嶼). And stumbled across the smelly toufu place that I pinned - too bad it wasn't open yet:

勝利門臭豆腐 泡菜

The lunch place was just around the corner - it was super popular that we had to put down our names and wait for 20 minutes. The restaurant was not wheelchair friendly, there was a flight of steps at the door which we had to carry the wheelchair up.
蔡師傅手工麵線

They specialised in taro dishes - the fried rice was the only non-taro dish:

Fried Taro Balls:

Some meat with taro:

Taro with noodles:

We ended off with a Taro ice dessert:

5. Bada Tower 八達樓子

Bada Tower 八達樓子
We didn't alight the car, but just drove past this place. It has very military vibe where the intention back then to build this was to cheer on the soilders.

6. 華興商行 石果軒香蛋

華興商行 石果軒香蛋
This was a very popular influencer foodie place which sells deep fried scallion pancake filled with egg, Kinmen sausages, and etc.

It tasted quite sinful, not bad! But if you're not ready for a conversation, please do not attempt to go there, the elderly owners were very friendly and tried like multiple times to keep me there to chat (they even offered tea to me).

7. Shaxi Fort 沙溪堡

Shaxi For is located at the most western point and was constructed as for military purposes. It is not wheelchair accessible.

It is now a historical site and more for educational purposes on it's military past. There is a tunnel experience onsite:

The fort’s location provides great views of the surrounding area - great for people who loves to take landscape photos!

8. 阿嬤ㄟ菜包粿

This was another very popular influencer foodie place:
阿嬤ㄟ菜包粿

The outer skin was made of sweet potato, filled with cabbage, shredded pork, dried shrimp, and mushrooms. We went pretty late in the afternoon, so the food was rather cold and hard. I wouldn't recommend? Maybe it will taste nice if you steam it beforehand!

9. Shang Lin Coastal Beach 上林海灘

We took a wrong turn and ended up at this beach... it was a surprised found!

Shang Lin Coastal Beach 上林海灘

Partial of the beach is wheelchair accessible, so that's a plus!

I really loved this place very much (can I make it hidden and not share?) - the oyster farming field, with the Xiamen skylines... it was really pretty. We managed to walk through the oyster farm and interacted with some of the locals. It was peacfeul, hardly anyone, you have the whole beach to yourself! Tip: come during sunset :>

10. 西方百年風獅爺 Xi Fang Wind Lion God

This Wind Lion God was very hidden at a corner, if you cannot find it, try locating the temple, it was diagonal opposite left of the temple.
西方百年風獅爺 Xi Fang Wind Lion God

There was those divine machine and we managed to draw one before the crowd came in.

11. Dinner!

We drove the car back to the minsu, and walked over to this dinner place:
新大廟口活海鮮

It was recently featured in a Taiwan drama.

Don't expect like fantastic service level from them.... but it is a very old school established eatery. Not an air-conditioned place, you will need to eat under the stars.

The food were alright, not the best, but got to try a lot of interesting dishes that we never tried before. I would still recommend, just lower your expectations.

12. Shopping

We shopped around the area near the restaurant - many interesting products to buy!

Recommended kinmen oilment:
王大夫一條根-金城民權門市

Desserts:
隨憶SuiYi cafe
This popular kinmen shaped egg waffle is something you need to try!

This marks the end of Day 2!
