[MY; 2022] Penang Day 1 | Hotel & Food

Day 1

Long awaited family trip - everyone in the family was excited (excluding me who has been traveling a lot for work trips). In this Penang series, it will be family-friendly itinerary (suitable for seniors).

Check-in Hotel: OZO George Town Penang

This is the first time, I am not posting the hotel link in my blog (a big hint that I'm not recommending this hotel). Everything looks new, great view - but the customer service was lacking. Ranting below, please skip if not interested.

We booked 2 rooms and reached late in the evening, we were given a lower level rooms - which means the room doesn't have great view as the reception area. We totally can understand that.

But what really bugged me was the washroom wasn't clean. I don't need everything to be sparkling clean; but reasonably clean and odorless. The dispenser was leaking soap all over the place, the house cleaning forgot to keep their wiping towels, and the last straw - the urine smell with stain.

We requested for a change of room as the smell was really bad. They told us they can do it and requested us to come back at a later timing so they have time to prep the new room. Being considerate, we returned back a few hours later, to our dismay they told us they're fully booked and we have to go back to our original room. OMG.

They got a guy to come and clean our washroom again, so we pointed out all the areas that requires clean up. He told us it is impossible to get rid of the urine smell and stain and left. HELLO???

I went online and check their room status and there were available rooms in other room types (just a few dollars more expensive - they could have told me and I'm more than happy to pay and upgrade), they rather leave it empty then to resolve this simple issue.

Dinner: Xi Shua Shua Hot Pot 喜刷刷火锅

Xi Shua Shua Hot Pot 喜刷刷火锅
162, Jalan Hutton, George Town, 10050 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia

I found this hot pot on google - it had quite a lot of good reviews and the place opens till 1am, which was perfect for us who arrived late!

There hot pots were served in individual pots, so either you can each get one, or 2 sharing one, or many sharing one. There were set meals, or ala cart - which all were very affordable. Happy damage to the wallet with good food :)

Look out more Penang blog posts coming up soon!
