[KR; 2024] Day 1 - Solo Seoul | Park Avenue Guest House \ Hongdae

Day 1

Annyeonghaseyo 안녕하세요!

This is my third time to Korea and second time solo traveling! It has been a long time since I went for a vacation (not work related or extended from a work trip), and alone. It was really refreshing~

A big reason why I chose Seoul was... I had to redeem my expiring Krisflyer points that has been extending forever since covid, and this one way ticket perfectly wipe off all the expiring points. If you're wondering how did I settle the other one way ticket back to Singapore - stay tuned to my blog!

So thank you SQ & of course my work for the free one-way ticket! Good work to me for working-flying hard.

My last Seoul trip was 2008 - I remembered I took Korean Airlines which arrived Incheon late at night. This time, I could properly roam around the airport since I arrived in late afternoon. The airport looked exactly the same in variety shows and dramas - which makes me excited. I was murmuring to myself - "oh running man filming there, oh that drama had a scene here".

It was quite a long walk from the arrival hall to the airport train. Probably because the plane landed at a further terminal?

Park Avenue Guest House

It was an easy decision for me to stay in Hongdae this time - my only requirement was to stay somewhere that has direct train from Incheon and to Gimpo. And I found this amazing space:

The room was perfect for one person stay (two is doable too).

There was a TV, fridge, good space to throw things around, and good toilet setup... and of course elevator to transport heavy luggage! The favourite was the home-cooked breakfast every morning - they were fabulous!

Exploring Hongdae

I tried to keep the arrival first day to be as relaxing as possible - met up with a few local friends to have some dinner and walk around Hongdae!

Dinner @ The Grazing Pig

The trendy BBQ store in Hongdae - do reserve beforehand!

Water celery / watercress was surprisingly good to pair with BBQ pork!

Another must-order is this water celery / watercress crispy pancake - it was good and crunchy! Recommend!

Photo Booth

There was plenty of photo booths in Hongdae and we went for one of the lesser crowded ones. It was rather fun - great idea for groups!

Desserts @ Raf House

It was a cozy cafe serving nice sharing desserts:

Hongdae Shopping Street

It was bustling on a Sunday night even like 10-11pm - which we were very surprised! It was nice to be walking the street with locals as they were sharing with me how different Hongdae was compared to their school days.

We saw something interesting, which was an analyst for your Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI):

It was all in Korean... google translate worked okay, but will be better if they printed English translation too:

This was a wrap for my first day - more to come in the next few posts!
