[AU; 2025] Day 1 - My Welcome to Perth | Damaged Luggage and City Drive

Day 1

Arrival

Kaya (Hello) Perth!

I was rather excited to be back in Perth, but wasn't expecting such a warm welcome with a damaged luggage - the wheel went missing.

I probably hold the record for the most missing luggage wheels and damaged suitcases among the people I know. I’ve claimed so many damaged luggage cases from travel insurance and airlines that I sometimes think I’ll end up on a blacklist someday. Luggage luck is definitely not on my side. This is to emphasize - travel insurance is very important.

The pretty sunrise right outside the international airport did a good save :>

Checking in

Novotel Perth Murray Street
I arrived the hotel really early in the morning and as expected I was told I couldn't check-in as the rooms were unavailable. But when I told the counter I'm willing to pay for early check-in, I got a room in 5 mins for an additional charge of A$100 - it was a steal compared to booking a night before, so I took the offer up.

It was a very basic room, nothing fancy. It was clean, comfy, no frills.

I got the room without breakfast, and I didn't pre-purchase one, and it quite expensive for a walk-in price: A$30. The spread was quite basic, I wouldn't recommend if you're walking in. If it is part of the hotel package - go for it!

Drive around Perth City

It wasn't my first time to Perth, but I was traveling with someone who never came to Perth. See my previous drive trip: [AU; 2023] Afternoon trip around Perth

This time, I got the same ride from the same local family, so the itinerary was quite similar - the weather was nice so it doesn't matter to me if it was a repeated itinerary:

#1 Kings Park and Botanic Garden

Kings Park and Botanic Garden

Perth has really interesting flowers and plants - probably more dessert in nature.

#2 Broadway Fair Shopping Centre

Broadway Fair Shopping Centre
Stopped by a local mall to grab some lunch - needed some comfort soupy food.

#3 Matilda Bay

Matilda Bay
This was a very nice place to just people watch and just enjoy the chill vibe!

#4 Bib and Tucker

Bib and Tucker

We had afternoon tea break at this superb busy Australian modern cafe. Hot chocolate was yummy, and the cakes were delicious too! They also had a great sea view:

Happy Hour - back in city

The Terrace Hotel
I had to meet someone back in the city, and we met at this hotel bar quite was unusually busy at an odd hour for happy hour. I guess work ends early on Friday!

Dinner

The Generous Squire

It was Friday so it was pretty difficult to find a place to accommodate a big group - we had pub food instead and the portions were huge that we ended up sharing the wings and fries among a couple for people. Heard the burgers are pretty solid and decent!

Ending my first night in Perth with a full tummy!
