[AU; 2026] Part 6 - Sydney | Taronga Zoo, Museums & Library

Australia Long Trip | Part 6 - Sydney

Day 7

1. Taronga Zoo

I took a day off from work to play tourist with my sister! We decided to go for the Taronga Zoo, and we booked the tickets very last minute on klook. The package came with a ferry ticket + entrance ticket to the zoo.

Fantasea Cruising
There were two pickup points - darling harbour & circular quay - and since we were staying near darling harbour, we took our ride from there. The ferry tickets + zoo tickets were both collected at the Fantasea counter.

The timings were that bad - one ferry per hour.

We had some time before the ferry boarding, we went around the harbour to grab some breakfast.

We managed to find a small cafe stall tucked at a corner:
Luxe Cafe

We got a hot chocolate and sausage toasties, I think they were quite yummy! Even the seagulls were tailing us for the food.

It was time for the boarding!

We had a good scenic ride around the harbour! I would highly recommend to start the trip at the darling harbour instead of circular quay. Or at least return your trip to darling harbour.

The ferry was moving in a good pace, and we enjoyed the ride to Taronga Zoo wharf:

Right outside of the wharf, there will be chartered buses to bring you to the top entrance of the zoo. My recommendation will be skip that. The ground entrance is perfectly fine because there were lifts in the zoo to bring you up. Save your bus ride money for some nice treats instead.

Taronga Zoo Sydney

Time to see some cute animals!

You can also get some nice view of the sydney cbd:

We were hungry (as always!), and decided to grab some food from the stalls within the zoo - it tasted quite decent:

We managed to catch the ferry on time, and amazing view back to the city:

2. The Rocks

Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA)
Previously when I visited MCA, there were a lot of free public space to explore, but this time they were very strict if you're entering the museum without a ticket. Which was quite disappointing. We decided to move on to The Rocks area - just walking on random streets and entering random spaces:

The Rocks Discovery Museum

It was quite a fun free space to learn more about The Rocks history.

La Renaissance Patisserie and Cafe
It started pouring, so we decided to get shelter from a nearby cafe - that was my second time to this cafe, their cakes were still delicious! The staff can be quite cold - they are a busy cafe.

3. Museums Hopping

Museum of Sydney
We booked tickets in advance, but the system didn't manage to scan our tickets.. but it was free entry so it doesn't matter?

It was quite a small museum that can be completed within an hour. I think kids will like those interactive activities over adults. But it gave me a good context of Australia's history.

We moved on to the next location -
State Library of New South Wales
I will totally recommend this place.

They had different rooms for different exhibitions, the content they curate was awesome.

I don't think I have been to a library that had done exhibitions that well - it was a good mix of topics and content.

4. Dinner

Most of the museums had closed, so we head off for our dinner.
And it started pouring heavily at the park that we were very drenched. We managed to walk our way to this popular cafe:
The Melting Cheese
It had very cute graphics everywhere:

While I was wondering why would such an average pasta cafe receive such a high ratings on google.. the staff asked if we could do a 5 star review for them and they will give us a free dessert to takeaway. A big ah-ha moment for us.

The night ended up messy with the rain, but it was still a fun day!
