[TH; 2023] Day 1 - Bangkok | National Stadium \ ICONSIAM \ Indy Market

Sharing my last travel in 2023 - finally completing my travel stories for year 2023! And the last travel was to Thailand!

Basically the flight was sponsored using my Qantas points for SIN > BKK leg. There is only Jetstar option, but thank goodness it comes with free luggage.

1. House of Papa & Dragon Town

Checked-in to a hotel for one night, it is located slightly away from the city center, but still a very vibrant place!

HOUSE OF PAPA BANGKOK SIAM

The building doesn't have lift, so if that is a concern for you - please do not book!

The room was very cozy and it had the old school vibe (which I liked it a lot!). The staff will help to carry your luggage up the stairs but I do feel bad as my luggage was super heavy. Nevertheless, nothing much to pick about the room, all good!

The view outside the window looks a little like somewhere in China?

The hotel do have some shared space where you can sit and chill~

The hotel is located within a place called the Dragon town โครงการดราก้อนทาวน์ - it is a super instagramable place although the name doesn't sounds like it.

We wanted to try this Son Brown Cafe but kept missing the opportunity to do so, but google review was good!

2. Streets along National Stadium

The hotel / Dragon town is near the national stadium, hence we decided to take a walk and see if we can grab some nice late lunch.

We chanced upon the physical store of a very popular online seafood stall - Puponfai ปูพ่นไฟ. I will share more on their dishes in the next few post. But if you want to dine in, they do have a restaurant - ZAP PONFAI by puponfai แซ่บพ่นไฟ.

TOOKPAK ถูกปาก
We went in to a highly rated thai cafe around the area, and I have to say that the interior design is so pretty!

We ordered pork neck/cheek and pad thai - both dishes were delicious! Recommend!

The street across the restaurant was Lotus - perfect timing for some shopping after a meal.

Lotus’s Rama I
As we were going on a road trip in the next 2 days, hence stocking up some food and drinks were very important. This Lotus outlet wasn't very touristy, more catered for locals.

While walking back to the hotel, we saw a very local hipster market. Was fun looking through the stalls!

There was this very popular stall along the streets - HAAB.BKK Bantadthong ขนมไข่สงขลา เจ้าดังบรรทัดทอง. We wanted to buy a box to try, and they are sold out for the day!

Based on what we read on google - they are traditional southern thai cake, which tasted soft and buttery. Hopefully they opens up more locations in the future so everyone can get to try them more easily!

3. Jeh O Chula

Jeh O Chula
I don't think I need to do much introductions? Everyone knows about their mama instant noodles. But please be prepared with the long wait, hence it was good that we were just staying across the street - get the number, return back to the room and wait in the aircon.

So just an idea for you if you are not staying in House of Papa - get the number and explore Dragon town while waiting!

They also had this salmon which was very popular too.

If you love crispy pork belly... don't miss them out from your order!

If you ask me if I will queue again - nah, I think I can cook similar mama instant noodles at home too.

4. ICONSIAM

Impromptu decided to visit one of the newest mall in town!

ICONSIAM ไอคอนสยาม
Really a very massive mall! And there is a whole basement level dedicated for street food.

If I didn't had the instant noodles earlier, I would probably want to try the food. Everything looks so yummy!

5. Indy Market @Dao Khanong

As the night was still young, we visited a less touristy night market, which was sort of close to ICONSIAM.

Their target audience are locals, so items were selling slightly cheaper compared to the other popular night markets in Bangkok.

Ended off the day with a happy tummy!
